Washington Co., Wi – Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, FoodShare (SNAP) benefits will not be available beginning November 1, 2025.
In Washington County, more than 7,000 residents — including 2,700 children, and many seniors and individuals with disabilities — rely on these benefits each month. That’s roughly $1.1 million in food assistancethat helps families put meals on the table.

Local food pantries are already seeing a surge in need — up 20% this year alone. In September, Full Shelf Pantry in West Bend served 1,200 people, including 450 families, before the SNAP suspension even began.
United Way of Washington County is spreading awareness to ensure our neighbors don’t go hungry. You can help by:
- Donating to Your Local Food Bank – donate a bag of groceries or make a financial contribution to a local pantry.
- Hosting a Food Drive – rally your workplace, school, faith community or neighborhood to collect non-perishable food items.
- Contact your local food pantry for their specific list of most requested items, but typically these are: canned goods (soups, vegetables, fruits, meats), pasta, rice, boxed meals, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, oatmeal, baby food and formula.
- Volunteering Your Time – Food banks will need volunteers to sort an increase in donations, pack boxes and distribute meals.

- Sharing This Message – Help spread awareness by sharing the attached flyer with food bank information and encouraging people who need assistance to call 2-1-1 for referrals and resources.
