VIDEO | Check out some familiar faces as the United Way of Washington County gears up for Packing for a Purpose

Washington Co., WI –  On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, United Way of Washington County launches its 89th annual campaign with Packing for a Purpose, a high-energy volunteer event where more than 400 volunteers will assemble over 15,000 snack packs for 25+ local nonprofit partners and schools serving children and seniors.

Check out a video from a couple years ago where over 350 volunteers filled 60,000 packages of soup and cereal to help people in need. Who do you recognize?

“This event is a great way to help fight hunger in Washington County where 1-in-14 residents received Foodshare benefits last year,” said Kristin Brandner executive director of United Way of Washington County.

For three hours 33 teams representing 22 local organizations packaged bags of soup and cereal in one of the biggest food drives in Washington County history.

A team from the City of Hartford sporting white hairnets, plastic gloves and red LIVE UNITED shirts spent an hour mixing oatmeal, apples and cinnamon into individual packages. “This is a good way to give back,” said City administrator Steve Volkert.

There was a hum in the room as each team fell into a rhythm of efficiency. Cowbells rang out as another box of food was filled, rolled away and stack in a growing tower of accomplishment and giving.
“We want to give back as a district and as employees because we value that incredibly,” said Phil Ourada with the Slinger School District.
Earlier in the day a team of 58 students from Richfield Middle School helped set up tables and build boxes. A sign United Way is growing to wrap its arms around another generation of volunteers.

“This was just awesome,” said Brandner.  “I’m truly grateful and humbled by the response of this community.  It’s inspiring!”
