July 26, 2022 – Washington Co., WI – The Ziegler Building at the Washington County Fairgrounds was abuzz with a lot of nervous kids and adults Monday as judging was underway in the exhibit hall for 4-H arts and crafts.
Projects included cake decorating, photography, quilting, rockets, woodworking and electronics.
Michael Lochen, 11, is with the Slinger 4-H said he made a Lego robot for his project.

“It took me about 30 hours to make it,” said Lochen. “The first time I tested it in front of people I put it on the table, and it was supposed to go forward but I made a mistake and it rolled back off the table, so I called it ‘The failure.'”
Once Lochen fixed the coding issue he relabeled his robot to “The not failure anymore.”
Michael’s mom Rachel Lochen said this was a good summer project that he really fell in love with. “He’s very mechanical,” she said. “If he runs into a problem, he has to solve it himself because this is computer code and I’m old; his math language is something I never learned.”
Lochen, a sixth grader at Slinger Middle School, said he’s been a 4-H member for three years and this was his first year in robotics.
