Neighbors in Washington Co., Wi, see and smell smoke from wildfires in Canada

May 30, 2025 – Washington Co., WI – Neighbors across Washington County, Wi, were submitting photos of the smoke from wildfires currently burning in Canada. Jim Sprouse from Property Loss Management on N. Main Street in West Bend, Wi, submitted two pictures that were 30 minutes apart. What a huge difference. 

The skies grew darker, almost hazy as the smell of smoke drifted across the community.

Doug Gonring from West Bend Elevator said he left for Kewaskum around 1 p.m. and the skies were almost orange in color.
The National Weather Service issued an air-quality alert along with ‘patchy smoke before 2 a.m.’

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of east central Wisconsin, south central Wisconsin and southeast Wisconsin including Washington County.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and early evening with the passage of a cold front. Isolated severe storms with damaging winds and large hail are possible according to the National Weather Service.
