VIDEO | Warm welcome for Glass Doctor of West Bend, Wi

West Bend, Wi – A fresh, community-focused business has officially planted its roots in West Bend. While Glass Doctor of West Bend, Wi, opened its doors back in February 2025, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony this week brought together the local community, welcoming owners Josh and Lindsey Uelmen to S. Main Street with open arms. The event was not just about the new business; it also spotlighted the couple’s commitment to providing quality service and giving back to their neighbors.

Located at 848 S. Main Street in the West Bend Plaza, Glass Doctor offers much more than typical windshield repair—it’s a full-service auto-glass facility specializing in everything from classic car restoration to heavy-equipment glass installations.

With a combined background in mechanical work and auto restoration, Josh and fellow mechanic Jeff Selin have made it their mission to bring precision, expertise, and a genuine Midwest work ethic to the auto-glass industry.

“We’ve been into cars for years, but this is a whole new challenge,” Josh said. “It’s been a learning curve, but we’ve had incredible support from the community.”

Their decision to open the shop was not just about filling a need—it’s also about sharing their passion with the area. “The response has been amazing, and we are so grateful for all the people who have trusted us with their vehicles,” Lindsey said.

Since opening in February, the shop has earned praise for its ability to handle a diverse range of glass repair jobs—from the simplest windshield chip repair to more complex tasks like recalibrating modern vehicles with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Uelmens’ commitment to precision is evident, especially given his expertise in older vehicles, where correct glass fitting can be critical for restoration purposes.

What truly sets Glass Doctor of West Bend apart is the variety of glass work they can handle. Not just for cars, their team is also equipped to tackle larger and more intricate installations.

One standout example involved the glass installation on a Class A motorhome, where the glass alone weighed about 250 pounds. “It took a few extra hands to pull it off, but it’s all part of the challenge,” Josh said.

Their ability to recalibrate windshields and ensure that ADAS sensors are aligned has become one of their specialties. “With the newer cars, the technology is so embedded into the windshield that one bad chip could lead to major alignment issues,” said Josh.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was more than just a grand opening—it was also an opportunity for the Uelmens to give back to the community. They partnered with a local food-share program, to collect donations during the event. Guests were invited to bring non-perishable food items, which will be used to purchase food shares for distribution in December.

“We’ve always believed that business and community go hand-in-hand. If you’re doing well, it’s important to share that success,” Josh said.

The couple officially opened their doors on February 4, setting up shop at 848 S. Main Street in the West Bend Plaza.

The location was a perfect match, offering plenty of space with an 8,000-square-foot shop, which can accommodate at least 10 vehicles, and a garage door large enough to accommodate large vehicles such as box trucks. “We looked at a few locations, but this one had everything we needed—visibility, space, and convenience for customers,” said Uelmen.

Uelmen, who spent 16 years working on power plant equipment, has always had a passion for automotive work.
Growing up on a farm, he restored cars with his father, Jim, and developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship. But instead of opening a full-service auto shop, he and Lindsey decided to specialize in auto glass repair and replacement. “We wanted to keep restoring cars as a hobby,” he said. “Glass repair is a different challenge, and it’s something people don’t really think about until they need it.”

Glass Doctor, a nationally recognized franchise with a hometown feel, stood out to the Uelmens because of its strong owner network and commitment to customer service. “Other franchises talk about values, but Glass Doctor owners really live them. The respect, integrity, and customer focus were what sold us,” Uelmen said.

West Bend’s automotive community has welcomed the new business with open arms. With nearby shops, Kwik Trip, and George Webb drawing traffic to Main Street, Glass Doctor is in good company. “There are a number of automotive businesses around here, and we all complement each other well,” said Uelmen.

Glass Doctor West Bend offers a full range of services, including windshield replacements, chip repairs, and even recalibrations for modern vehicles equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). “A lot of people don’t realize their cars have these safety systems, but when we replace a windshield, we make sure everything is recalibrated so they’re back on the road safely,” said Uelmen.

Customer satisfaction is at the heart of what the Uelmens do. Their “Make It Right” guarantee ensures that if something isn’t perfect, they’ll fix it—no extra charge. And their pricing? “We’ve had customers tell us we’re cheaper than some of the big names out there. It depends on the vehicle, but we always try to be fair,” Josh said.

Beyond windshield work, Glass Doctor also offers headlight restoration and a special water-repellent coating for windshields that lasts up to two years. “It’s all about making driving safer and easier for our customers,” said Uelmen.

The shop operates Monday through Friday, allowing the Uelmens and their team to maintain a work-life balance while still providing top-notch service. “We all have families, and we want to make sure we’re here for them, too,” he said.

For those in need of glass repair in West Bend, Glass Doctor is ready to help. Whether it’s a quick chip fix or a full windshield replacement, Josh and Lindsey are proud to serve their community with honest work and a smile. “We just want to be the solution people can count on,” said Uelmen. “That’s what Midwest values are all about.”
