Slinger, WI – Students at Slinger High School stepped up and made a generous donation over $600 to the Allenton American Legion Fohl-Martin Post 483 for Wreaths Across America.
“It’s a great cause to support our veterans who fought for our country,” said Slinger High School senior Sean Hill. “It is the least we can do to honor them during the holidays.”
This is the second year students from Slinger High School, under the guidance of teachers Jeff Wolf and Nate Grimm, have made a donation to the Allenton Legion for the Wreaths Across America Program.
“Our goal is to honor 300 local veterans by placing a wreath on their headstones in eight area cemeteries across Washington County,” said Legion member Ron Naab.
Those that wish to purchase a wreath to be placed on a Veteran’s gravestone located outside of our 8 designated cemeteries can do so as well.
Each wreath costs $15, as this is an excellent way for our grateful community, state and nation to say “thank you” to our veterans.
Orders need to be in by November 29,2020. Order forms are available at Allenton American Legion Post 483 Facebook page or stop by Alma’s Café or Romie’s BP in Allenton or contact Ron Naab [email protected] or 262/629-9749
Those wreaths will need to be picked up at the American Legion Clubhouse on Railroad Street in Allenton on December 19 at 10 a.m.
“Wreaths Across AmericaTM (WAA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007, by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, to support the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Since its founding, the WAA has expanded to include nearly 2,000 local fundraising groups in all 50 states, representing more than 1,600 participating locations. In 2019, nearly 2 million veterans were honored with a wreath in the United States and at cemeteries across the world.”
The post is looking for volunteers to join the Allenton Legion Post on National Wreaths Across America Day, December 19, 2020. Volunteers can participate in our wreath-laying ceremonies at Sacred Heart (Allenton), St. Mathias (Nabob), SS Peter & Paul (Nenno), St. Anthony, St. Lawrence, St. John (Beaver Dam Rd / WW), Zion (Hwy D), and St. Peter (Beaver Dam Road). Placing of the wreaths will begin at 10 a.m.
