During Peace Officers Week the West Bend common council recognized local police officers that went above duty.
On Oct. 24, 2015, Detective Grinwald was off-duty and took his family to a popular haunted house in Slinger.
While taking his young children through the event, Detective Grinwald recognized a subject working at the haunted house from an investigation Detective Grinwald had conducted several months prior.
Detective Grinwald observed the subject interacting with children and suspected the subject was a registered sex offender. Detective Grinwald contacted the State of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry and confirmed the subject was a registered sex offender and was prohibited from contact with children.
Detective Grinwald worked with officers from the Slinger Police Department to ensure the subject was taken into custody and charged with having unlawful contact with children.
Detective Grinwald’s off-duty actions helped ensure the safety of the children at the event and ensured the offender would be held accountable for his actions.
