KML’s Star Search is Monday, Feb. 22

On Feb. 22 at 7 p.m., Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School will host its own “Star Search talent show in the KML Performing Arts Center. The event is sponsored by Kettle’s own Student Council.

Star Search is typically put on once every two years, allowing students to showcase their talents. In 2014, performances ranged from homemade videos to dance skits.

This year, however, all six acts that have signed up are planning to sing, either in duets or as soloists.

A unique feature of Star Search lies in the judging panel, which is completely made up of KML students: John Datka, Thaddeus Schneiss, and Brendon Clemens.

I use the term “judging” loosely, as the guys are more emcees than decision-makers. Datka and Clemens already have had experience in this field as they were the student commentators for KML’s powderpuff football game during Homecoming week.

To decide winners, Student Council is planning to integrate a new voting system. The spectators who bring their phones will be able to text their vote to a computer-based counter. In the past, the judges have decided the winners, but Student Council has decided that the new method will offer everyone in attendance a chance to participate. Homemade trophies (courtesy of senior Sharla Boehlke) will be given to the top two acts.

Admission is free, and the event begins at 7 p.m. this coming Monday. Bring your phones, and Student Council hopes to see you there!
