2 people arrested for theft from vehicles in Washington Co.

October 7, 2020 – Washington Co., WI – This morning, October 7, 2020 at 2:36 a.m. an alert homeowner noticed a subject attempting to enter a vehicle in the driveway of his Trenton home on N. River Road.

The homeowner immediately called 911 to report the incident. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies flooded the immediate area but were not able to initially locate the suspect.

About 1/3 mile away, deputies located a suspiciously parked vehicle on a cul-de-sac and observed incriminating items in plain view.

Deputies continued to monitor the suspicious vehicle and stopped it leaving the cul-de-sac at 3:44 a.m. A search was done on the vehicle and a “trunk full of items” believed to be stolen from vehicles were located by deputies. Some items are believed to be already reported as stolen while other items may not have yet been reported. The seized items may have been taken over the past several weeks.

A 38-year-old City of West Bend man and a 40-year-old Horicon man were arrested and are currently held in the Washington County Jail. Washington County detectives are currently working with other area law enforcement agencies to determine the origin of all the missing property.

Residents who had their vehicles recently the targeted by thieves are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency as we may have already recovered your missing items.

According to Sheriff Martin Schulteis, “This investigation is a prime example of successful law enforcement through a collaborative partnership with the community and other law enforcement agencies. Effective prevention, response, and mitigation of crime cannot be successfully accomplished by law enforcement alone. I want to thank the alert citizen who made a difference by reporting the suspicious activity to us.”
