Washington County, WI – The traffic was fast and furious at the Ziegler Family Expo Building as hundreds of 4-H students lined up to submit their summer projects for photography, agriculture, cake decorating, quilting, wood working, Legos and more for the 165th annual Washington County Fair.

Wyatt Steinert, 8, is with the Boltonville Firecrackers 4-H.  He made a turkey fan holder out of the tail and beard of a turkey he shot with his dad. “We got the wood and cut it and did some sanding and cutting and attached some parts and sprayed it with some spray to make it not rot,” he said.

Steinert worked on the project for a couple weeks and entered it in the Cloverbuds category. He said it took one shot to take down the bird in Fillmore. “I used hot glue to attach the shell I used to kill the turkey.”

4-H, Schwai
Anna Schwai, 10, from Campbellsport and she is part of Kewaskum 4-H’ers. She took home a 1st place blue ribbon for her around the world quilt. “I made it with my aunt and Grandma and it took about six months to make,” she said. “The funnest thing about the project was watching it come together.”
Judges were impressed with Schwai’s use of colors, the even binding and the intricate mitered corners. “She did a very nice overall job overall,” said judge Sharleen Tetzlaff. “I’ve been judging for many years… since the fair was held in Slinger. It is unique to see someone so young who focused this much on detail and her color selection and flow was done very well; it takes a lot of patience and a long time to complete something like this.”
Hope Bury with 4-H Kirchayne Trotters entered several vacation photos and judges selected her photo as the Purple Ribbon Grand Champion.  “Extraordinary! Superb!” were the reviews.
