51st annual Rolfs Educational Foundation Award winners | By Nancy Kunkler

West Bend, WI – The 51st annual Rolfs Educational Foundation Awards have been distributed to dedicated employees of the West Bend School District.  The awards feature a $1,000 gift to each winner. Claire Rolfs of the Rolfs Educational Foundation announced the award winners.

The 2022 winners include:

Stacy Baldwin – Grade 5 Special Education, Silverbrook Intermediate School

Stacy Baldwin has served the West Bend School District for 21 years. She is respected for her expertise and leadership at Silverbrook Intermediate School as she is actively involved in all aspects of learning. She is sought out by her colleagues because of her knowledge, especially as it relates to student learning, engagement, and well-being.

Her nomination said, “Stacy understands her students’ needs, adjusting her approach in
whatever way necessary to ensure they are successful. She spends countless hours outside of school to make sure the students get what they need. Stacy has a natural ability to individualize instruction and problem solve with her students and not only individualizes students’ learning and supports their goals through their IEPs, but genuinely cares for their basic and emotional needs.”

Amy Carver – Special Education, Jackson Elementary School

In Amy Carver’s five years with the West Bend School District, she has proved that her teaching methods are entertaining and her communication skills, effectiveness with students, and creative problem-solving skills are incredible. She has her heart wrapped around each and every one of the students that she serves.

Her nomination said, “Amy has many incredible skills, including as a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, being a behavioral specialist, and a leader in the area of inclusion. Amy builds a fantastic relationship with the students that is genuine. She is a flexible thinker and looks for multiple ways to solve a problem.”

Craig Barnes -Grade 1, Jackson Elementary School

Craig Barnes has been a teacher in the West Bend School District for 28 years. Craig is able to create a calm environment where all children can be their best. This calm and patient demeanor carries over into all aspects of his life as a teacher.

His nomination said, “All of the kids love him and always come back to see him when they move on to another grade. Craig always has a positive attitude no matter the circumstances around him. He deals with difficult situations with incredible professionalism and poise. He creates the truest form of an inclusive learning environment that meets the many diverse needs and learning styles of his students.”

Susan Saric- Advanced Placement and Gifted and Talented, East and West High Schools

Susan has served the West Bend School District for six years in various roles. Throughout that time, Susan’s professionalism and attention to detail means that she’s a go-to person for many colleagues when they need help with a tough problem.

Her nomination said, “Susan thinks ahead for what might need to be done and solicits feedback, and she honestly cares about everyone’s thoughts. Both students and teachers know that coming to Susan means a happy smile, an energetic ear, and a person who will get things completed. She is an adult that all students gravitate to. To them, she is a cheerleader and a problem solver.”

 

Each year, nominations for the award can be submitted by students in grades 5-12, parents, community members, peers, or administration. Qualified staff must have completed a minimum of three years of employment, must not have received the award in the last two years, and must receive at least two nominations.
