Village of Germantown, WI – About 50 people atteneded the Sunday afternoon Civil War Monument dedication at Our Saviours Christ Cemetery in the Village of Germantown.
There were 10 veterans whose names were on the monument including Adam Arnold, Paul Bast, August Boeker, Charles Dallmann, Peter Dix, Melcher Greulich, Georg Henrich, David Klumb, John Poehlman and Peter Rheingans.
Veteran Adam Arnold’s great great grandson was in attendance at the event along with several other family members who offered a bit of history on Adam Arnold Senior. 
“We gather to remember to remember our Civil War veterans who gave selflessly to serve and protect our country at a time of very great difficulty. We lift up those who served with honor and dignity and courage. Those who served in order that our nation and communities in which we live might be safe and secure as one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” said Pastor Greg Young.
According to volunteer Richard Lindbeck, “Washington County is one of the areas with a rich Civil War veteran history. We have erected some 30 monuments to make sure those who served are not lost to our history.
“Gene Wendleborn, who is a Navy veteran, a World War II veteran and a research volunteer at the West Bend Historical Society, started this project. He began researching cemeteries, newspapers, church records and county veteran service officers to ensure those Civil War veterans and all who served were properly accounted for.
“Gene passed away before his research was completed. The veteran service officer helped establish the work and continue to honor our Civil War veterans.
“The monuments are paid for by donations from local businesses, community organizations, as well as individual donations. No tax dollars are used, and committee members donate their time.”
The monument at Our Saviours Christ Cemetery is sponsored by former Washington County chairman Ken Miller, who died January 9, 2026. Ken was a full-time employee of the DOD through the WI Army National Guard for over 30 years.
Village of Germantown, Wi – A monument dedication ceremony honoring 10 Civil War veterans will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, at Our Saviours Christ Cemetery in the Village of Germantown.
The monument will recognize the service of Civil War veterans Adam Arnold, Paul Bast, August Boeker, Charles Dallmann, Peter Dix, Melcher Greulich, Georg Henrich, David Klumb, John Poehlman and Peter Rheingans.
The dedication will include a Color Guard and a three-round volley as part of the ceremony honoring the veterans.
The monument is intended to ensure the 10 Civil War veterans are never forgotten, even if the grave markers or headstones identifying their final resting places deteriorate over time and become illegible.

The dedication provides an opportunity for the community to honor the veterans’ service and preserve their memory for future generations.
The ceremony Sunday begins at 1 p.m. at the cemetery, W188N12588 Maple Road. The public is welcome to attend.
