Washington Co., Wi – Hundreds of volunteers from across Washington County gathered Tuesday afternoon for a food-packing event to help support United Way of Washington County.
This was the United Way’s 90th annual campaign that featured a high-energy volunteer event where more than 400 volunteers assembled over 15,000 snack packs for 25+ local nonprofit partners and schools serving children and seniors.
“Food insecurity in Washington County doesn’t always look the way people expect,” said Kristin Brandner, CEO, United Way of Washington County. “It can be the senior on a fixed income deciding between groceries and medication, or the neighbor two streets over who you’d never guess is skipping meals. We don’t want anyone in our community to make that choice, and this drive is a great example of what’s possible when a local business and United Way come together for our neighbors.”
For three hours teams representing 22 local organizations packaged snack packes in one of the biggest food drives in Washington County history.

Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing is joining the United Way campaign this year.
Through September 29, community members dropped off non-perishable food items at any Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing location in West Bend, Hartford, or Hubertus.
All donations collected throughout the drive will benefit food pantries throughout Washington County, helping ensure families across the county have access to the food they need.
Most-needed items include cereal, canned vegetables, fruits and meats, soups, pasta and rice, peanut butter, jelly, sugar, flour, cooking oil and other shelf-stable staples. Personal care and household items also are appreciated. Donors are asked to check expiration dates before donating.
“We believe in taking care of the community that’s taken care of us for years,” said Rachel Rate, Head of Operations of Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing. “Hunger is an issue right here in our own backyard, and we want to use our trucks and our team to help make a difference. We’re proud to partner with United Way of Washington County, and we’re hopeful our neighbors will join us in filling the truck on September 29.”
