October 17, 2026 – Weyauwega / Hartford, WI – Nancy Ann Berglund Abendschein of Weyauwega, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, just one day shy of her 90th birthday. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Raised in Hartford, Wisconsin, Nancy was the beloved only child of Harold and Mabel Berglund. The apple of her parents’ eyes, she grew into an intelligent, spirited, and wonderfully determined woman who was truly one of a kind.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Nancy devoted 36 years to teaching in the Appleton Area School District, primarily at Edison Elementary School, where she worked alongside her dear friend and longtime roommate, Joyce Barber. After retiring in 1994, she volunteered at the historic Log Schoolhouse at Bubolz Nature Preserve. She was also a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford, where the bell choir held a special place in her heart.
Of all the blessings in Nancy’s life, none was greater than her beloved Phillip, whom she often called the best thing that ever happened to her. Married on October 14, 2007, they shared 15 wonderful years before his passing in January 2023. Their love remained one of her greatest treasures.
Nancy dearly loved her grandson, Jason, and his wife, Laura; her great-grandchildren, John and Rose; and her special niece, Judy Abendschein. She also cherished dear friends who became family, including Dawn and Robert Telfer, Tom and Sandy VandenBoogaard, and the Christopher family.
In a beautiful final celebration, Nancy enjoyed her long-awaited 90th birthday party surrounded by loved ones. Radiant and truly at her best, she gave her family and friends one last unforgettable memory.
Although she passed away just hours before her actual birthday, her family finds comfort in believing that Phillip came to bring his beloved Nancy home, just in time for her 90th birthday party in heaven.
And knowing Nancy, heaven had better be ready for quite a party.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved Phillip and her parents, Harold and Mabel Berglund.
A private service was held to honor Nancy’s life.
