Barn destroyed by fire in neighboring Dodge County

July 5, 2020 – Dodge Co., WI – A barn in rural Dodge County is considered a total loss after fire destroyed it Friday night July 3, 2020.

Firefighters from Clyman, Lowell, and Reeseville Fire Departments were called to W10409 Highway I at 7:41 p.m. for reports of a structure fire with cattle in the barn.

According to Reeseville Fire Chief Nic Gay upon arrival the barn was fully involved including a nearby small shed.

Initial reports came in that four people were unaccounted for as they went back into the barn to try and remove the cattle.

When firefighters arrived on scene it was determined the people and the cattle had made it out safely.

Gay said the barn was also full of hay, which combined with the hot weather and wind, made the suppression efforts last into the early morning hours.

Firefighters from Clyman, Lowell, Watertown, Hustisford, Juneau, Lebanon, Beaver Dam, Columbus, Marshall, Waterloo, Johnson Creek, and Lake Mills assisted at the scene. Lifestar and Beaver Dam ambulances and Reeseville First Responders assisted at the scene.

Also assisting was Dodge County Sheriff Department and Dispatch Center, the Dodge County Emergency Response Team (DCERT), WE Energies, and Jerry Hepp Excavating Inc. of Watertown. Firefighters remained on scene until 12:30 a.m.  No firefighters were injured.
