VIDEO | Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Schwitz retires

September 15, 2021 – Washington Co., WI – The Washington County Sheriff’s Department family celebrated the career of Deputy Jeff ‘Ace’ Schwitz on Tuesday afternoon.

There was lunch, laughs, food, and memories shared about a career that spanned a total of 36 years with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Martin Schulteis started the informal ceremony recalling some of the hot trends from 1985 when Schwitz started in law enforcement.Jeff Schwitz

“Popular TV shows were The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Miami Vice, and Dynasty,” said Schulteis. “I bet you there are a lot of people here who don’t know who J.R. is or who shot J.R.”

Schulteis said Ronald Reagan was President of the United States, Back to the Future was a popular movie and a gallon of milk sold for $2.26, and gas was $1.20 a gallon and stamps were 20 cents.

When Schwitz was hired as a special deputy his salary was $6.80 an hour in 1985. In 1988 he was hired full time at $9.50 an hour. Schwitz

Schulteis presented Schwitz with a plaque for his years of service. 

“I want to thank God for the ability to do this job and keep me safe throughout my career. Next, I had two dreams when I was a kid, one was to be a cop and the other was after I met Bonnie in seventh grade was to marry her.  It took a while but 47 years ago today she said I do.

“This has been a blessed career and I’ve been very honored and proud of my accomplishments.”
