Save the date: Free Native American Tribal performance at MOWA Saturday, July 23, 2022

West Bend, WI – The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) announces a free outdoor performance on Saturday, July 23 at 1:00 by the renowned troupe of Ho-Chunk professional tribal entertainers, the Bear Clan Singers & Dancers.

The community is invited to enjoy this complimentary authentic tribal music and dance performance in the MOWA Gardens located at 205 Veterans Avenue.

Perfect for all ages, the audience can experience first-hand Native American dances such as the Shield Dance and Eagle Dance, and are invited to be part of a Participation Dance. The leader of the troupe, Rick Cleveland, will narrate throughout the performance providing knowledge and insights about the Native American culture, dances, and music.

Hailing from the Wisconsin Dells area, the Bear Clan Singers & Dancers is comprised of a family led by Rick Cleveland and includes his children, sisters and brothers, and nieces and nephews. Each family member has been taught the ways and meanings of their Woodlands dances with teachings that have been handed down for generations.

Collectively they have won numerous awards and championships at powwows nationwide. They have performed at Olympic events and been chosen for the Native American Dance Theater in New York City. This performance is supported by the Arts Midwest GIG Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Wisconsin Arts Board.

Afterward, attendees are invited inside for the opening reception of two new exhibitions—Tom Jones: Here We Stand and Tom Antell: Strange Lands from 2:00 to 4:00. The opening reception is free for MOWA members. Membershipin lieu of one-day admissionis as low as $15 and provides unlimited museum visits for one full year. Both exhibitions will be on view from July 23 through October 9, 2022.
The Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend is open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:30–4:00.
