Hartford Rotary’s Students of the Month | By Katrina Cravy

Hartford, WI – The Hartford Rotary Club and Hartford Union High School are pleased to announce that Joshua Knapp and Elisabeth Norman were honored recently as Rotary Students of the Month. The students were given special recognition for their accomplishments at the Hartford Rotary Club’s Thursday noon meetings during the month of September.

Joshua Knapp is the son of Ginger and Tobin Knapp. Knapp is a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, the Environmental Club, the Math Team, H-Club, and the Boys Swim Team at HUHS. He is also active in 4-H.
Knapp swims the 200 Individual Medley and has been a member of the swim team all four years. He lettered in swimming his sophomore year and served as one of the team captains during his junior year. Knapp has held the officer positions of parliamentarian, and president, and currently serves as secretary of FFA at Hartford. He has competed in local and state FFA competitions in Parliamentary Procedure and will compete in Veterinary Science at nationals in October.

Knapp is secretary for the environmental club this year and helped lead the Druid Lake project to eliminate purple loosestrife from the waterway.
In his spare time, Knapp works as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA, serves as a coach for the Hartford Special Olympics swim team, and does volunteer work at the Richfield Historical Society. He also runs a hobby farm and received the Wisconsin State Fair Supreme Goat Exhibitor award. Knapp plans to attend a 4-year university and then continue on to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in reproductive medicine.
Elisabeth Norman is the daughter of Nicole and David Norman. Norman has been a part of Math Club and Math Team since her freshman year and has competed at almost every math meet. In her sophomore year, Norman joined FFA where she competed on the Parliamentary Procedures team and the Veterinary Science team.
This past year her Parliamentary Procedures team won 4th place at the state competition and her Veterinary Science team won 1st. Norman will be competing at the national competition in November representing Wisconsin.
Additionally, she has served on the FFA officer team in both her junior and senior years as treasurer. During her junior year, Norman joined the Environmental Club and participated in a project to raise Cellas beetles with the DNR. She was elected treasurer of the Environmental Club this year. Norman is also a member of the National Honor Society at HUHS and received the Spade Award during her junior year.
Norman has been doing Irish Dance through the Schauer Center since second grade and performed in recitals every year for the community. She started working at St. Vincent de Paul her sophomore year where she cashiered and worked in donations. Norman also regularly attends her brother’s soccer games where she sets up and takes down nets and helps with tournaments. Norman plans to go to a four-year university on a pre-PharmD tract majoring in either biochemistry or pharmaceutical science. After completing the prerequisites, Norman plans on entering pharmacy school and completing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
