Nov. 28, 2016 – West Bend, WI – Next week, the West Bend School District (WBSD) will join a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries…Hour of Code.
Throughout the week of December 5-9, 2016, over 1,550 WBSD students in grades 5 – 12 will participate in one-hour computer science activities designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. More than 95,898 Hour of Code events are currently planned, with a goal to reach 100 million students.
The Hour of Code is a grassroots campaign for tens of millions of students in celebration of Computer Science Education Week. Learning computer science will help nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-Century career path.
The Hour of Code is organized by Code.org, a public 501c3 non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation from all students.
In last year’s Hour of Code, 15 million students tried computer science! Computer science was on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. President Obama, Shakira and Ashton Kutcher all kicked off the Hour of Code with videos. Over 100 partners came together to support this movement.
Teachers in the WBSD have classroom activities planned for students to write code using unique opportunities designed just for the Hour of Code.

High School, (9th – 12th grades): Tuesday, December 6th throughout the day
Badger Middle School (7th and 8th grades): Monday, December 5 from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Silverbrook Intermediate: Friday, December 9 throughout the day
