The IRS phone call scam finally found a local victim. A woman was convinced to pay off her supposed back-taxes by buying $1,000 worth of iTunes gift cards. She gave the “agent” the redemption codes, which are then sold on the black market. According to Police Chief Jed Dolnick, “It’s impossible to recover the money or do anything about the suspect, who probably called from a “boiler room” operation overseas.”
Residents are encouraged to be aware of these scams and use extra caution with suspicious phone calls.
