New name and logo revealed for former Benders Restaurant & Sports Pub

Feb. 21, 2017 – West Bend, WI – After a couple of weeks of mulling over business names the owners of the former Benders Restaurant & Sports Pub are revealing their new name.

“It’ll be Ion Sports Pub,” said Nora Sanchez. “It’s a combination of the business partners first names Isaac, Oscar and Nora.”

Oscar Steinbauer Jr. and Sanchez were working with family to clean up the site with hopes of opening in April.

Aside from the name change they’ve been some spiffing up of the interior with new paint, flooring and colorful lighting strips above the bar.

Sanchez said they could have red lighting when the Wisconsin Badgers play and green when the Packers are on one of their multiple 55-inch TVs.

Watch for Ion’s menu to be released in the coming week. Sanchez said they will feature gourmet burgers, pizza, wings and fish fries on Friday. There will also be Mexican fare including fajitas and margaritas.

The beer selections will be standard along with IPAs and Guinness.

Ion Sports Pub is expected to open for lunch and dinner in April. Stay tuned!

On a history note:

Four weeks ago http://www.washingtoncountyinsider.com ran a story announcing the new restaurant on Paradise Drive in West Bend.

Some eyebrows were raised when the original name they chose was The Hideout Pub.  That name, according to neighbors, appeared too similar to ‘Al’s Hideout’ on Park Avenue.

Rosemary Guth wrote on Washington County Insider on Facebook, “There’s only one HIDEOUT in West Bend and it’s on Park Ave!!!!”

Judy Ninke also chimed in. “I think they should choose a different name instead of coping from a bar already in town for 9 years.”

Al Pesavento, the owner of Al’s Hideout was a little miffed as well.  He hoped the family’s plan was just an oversight and a new name would be explored.
Steinbauer Jr. said they had no idea they were copying someone in town. He said they did an initial license check and found nothing but once Al’s Hideout was brought to light they totally understood the concern. (Yes… a little confusing.)

For several weeks Steinbauer and Sanchez kicked around some ideas and came up with Ion.

  1. Hi there! Congrats to ION’s pending re-opening. Just a thought for the name . . . considering the location on Paradise Drive . . . “Paradise Pub & Grill” (PPB) would be rather fitting.

    Best of Luck!
