Blanche R. Schuelke (nee Schaefer) age 109 of West Bend died peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Samaritan Health Center. She was born February 18, 1907 in Milwaukee to Arthur and Rose (nee Dapp) Schaefer and married Walter G. Schuelke on August 3, 1935 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1991.
Following their marriage, Walter and Blanche settled in West Bend. Blanche was very active in the community. She was a member of the Apostolate of Suffering, a long-time member of the West Bend Woman’s Club, beginning in 1935, a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary of which she was a charter member of the original guild in 1937, the Washington County Historical Society, the West Bend Art Museum of which she was a receptionist from 1974 until 1995 and the DSHA High School in Milwaukee Alumni Association.
Blanche is survived by her 2 children: Nan (Jase) Moesch and Robert (Barbara) Schuelke, her 6 grandchildren: Craig (Mary) Hernikl, Julie (Mark) Mertzig, David Hernikl, Jeff (Eva) Schuelke, Tim Schuelke and Elizabeth (Christopher) Grimm her 11 great-grandchildren: Freddie Mertzig, Sara (Karl) Stone, Taylor (Erin) Hernikl, Cole Hernikl, Rachel Hernikl, Rebecca Hernikl, Ben Schuelke, Tommy Schuelke, Henry Schuelke, Jamie Grimm and Elodie Grimm and her Great-great-grandchild Keni Stone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Heppe presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
The family will greet visitors on Monday, at the church from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Full Shelf Food Pantry or the Holy Angels School Trust Fund are appreciated.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Samaritan Health Center, especially those on the first floor and the nurses and staff at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and compassion given to Blanche.
