Obit: Gilbert “Gib” O. Falkenthal, Jr., 87, Hustisford

Gilbert “Gib” O. Falkenthal, Jr., passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at the age of 87 years.  He was born June 27, 1929, in the Town of Hustisford, the son of Gilbert F. and Orvilla (nee Schwantes) Falkenthal.

Gib served his community and county by being an honorary member of the Hustisford Volunteer Fire Department, by serving on the Hustisford Village Board of Trustees, and then serving as President of the Village of Hustisford.  He served on Hustisford’s Electric Utility Board and served on St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Board.  Gib was a past chairman of the Hustisford Police Commission.  He was serving on the Dodge County Human Service and Health Board at the time of his death.  In 2004, Gib received the Hustisford Lions Club Community Service Award.  He was a lifetime member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Hustisford.

In September of 1950, Gib married Norma Dornfeld at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Hustisford.  Gib farmed for 39 years in the Town of Hustisford on the family farm that began as a homestead farm.  After farming, he went to work at Rein Leitzke Company; because of his hard work and talent, he achieved the position of plant manager.  After 26 years of service, Gib retired and began as a school bus driver for Schultz School Bus Service.

Gib is survived by his loving wife, Norma, of 65 years, and his loving sons, Cliff (Deb) of Hustisford, Tony (Barb) of Slinger, Clay (Sheila) of Hustisford, Glen (Diane) of Hustisford, and Brad (Kristi) Falkenthal of Beloit.  He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Heidi (Jacob) Anderson, Jodi (Brad) Doro, Amanda Falkenthal, Blake Falkenthal, Abby (Sam) Schroeder, Ashley (Justin) Bestor, Adam (special friend Amanda Blaisdell) Falkenthal, Austin Falkenthal, Jake (special friend Athena Mikrut) Falkenthal, Kale (Alysia) Falkenthal, Wade (special friend Claire Cottom) Falkenthal, Kimara (Kris) Riggs, Easton Falkenthal, and Alissa Falkenthal.  Also surviving are six precious great-grandchildren, his sister Geraldine (Wilmer) Schuett, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  Preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother-in-law Donald Dornfeld.

Visitation is Saturday, July 30, 2016 from noon – 3 p.m., at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, N4919 Gray Road, Hustisford.  Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at church.  Rev. Jeff Davis will officiate.  Interment Hustisford Cemetery.
