Obit: Viola Grady, 93, Slinger

Viola Grady was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2016, while residing briefly at the Pavilion at Glacier Valley of rural Slinger. She was 93 years of age.

She was the daughter of the late Alfred Horst and Hertha (Westphal) Horst, born to them on March 5th, 1923.  She graduated from Hartford High School in 1941 and was active in many high school activities, including GAA champs in her junior and senior year.

 

She played basketball and loved to play baseball.  She played clarinet in the band.  After high school she worked at the Fairmont ice cream parlor.  She also worked at J.C. Penney and Enger Kress, both in West Bend, and also in the office at Wacker Corp. and waitressed at Elroy‘s Dairy Bar.  She later worked and retired from the Lincoln School office in Hartford with 20+ years of service.

On January 2nd, 1943, Viola married Eugene Reimer and they resided in West Bend for a few years.  In 1945, Gene and Viola purchased Spring Park Dairy or Mantes Dairy from the late William and Esther Mante.  They operated Reimer Dairy until 1961.  Gene and Viola divorced shortly thereafter.  On June 26th 1969, Viola married James Grady.

She is survived by 4 children, David (Jeanne) Reimer of Hartford, Steven (Kathe) Reimer of Waterford, Mark (Jean) Reimer of Plymouth and Chris Yarbrough of New Albany, IN.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.  Also surviving are one sister, Gloria Luedtke of Shawano, one sister-in-law, Pearl Horst of Hartford, and brother-in-law, Willard Kaun of West Bend.

Preceding her in death are James Grady, son-in-law, Doug Yarbrough, sisters Laverne Horst, Florence (Elroy) Beilke, Delores (George) Kraeuche, Jeanette (Vincent) Hausmann, Elaine Kaun, brother, Alfred Horst Jr., brother-in-law, Floyd Luedtke; and nephew, Gregory Horst.

Viola was a member of Peace Lutheran church in her early and mid-years.  She was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Neosho when she resided there.  She was again a member of Peace Lutheran when she passed away.

Funeral services for Viola will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, (1001 Center Street, Hartford, WI 53027) at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Waldschmidt officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 3:00-5:00p.m.

Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:30a.m.
