January 2, 2024 – Kewaskum, WI – On New Year’s Eve, Peter Rettler, Dean of Moraine Park Technical College’s West Bend Campus, completed his “30 Runs to Remember” in support of the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center.
Rettler has been running every day since January 1, 1994, and has not missed a day through sickness, extreme cold, travel, and even the birth of his children.

Rettler celebrated his 30-year streak by dedicating 30 runs in December to individuals directly affected by the terrorist attacks, as well as firefighters, EMS, police, and members of the military. Each day, local businesses, organizations, or community members sponsored the run.
“We had a goal of raising $30,000 to help subsidize bussing for field trips to the Memorial,” said Rettler. “The support from the community was amazing, and we ended up with 34 sponsors for the event.”
“This money will go towards funding field trips for local schools to visit the Memorial in downtown Kewaskum to learn about the tragic events of September 11, 2001,” said Fuzz Martin, President of Kewaskum Remembers 9/11, Inc. “Pete’s commitment and contributions are an inspiration to our community, and we are encouraged to see so many businesses, organizations, and individuals participate.”
“30 Runs to Remember” culminated with the annual Rettler Run 5K at the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial on New Year’s Eve. By the start of the event, there were 247 entries. Funds raised from the Rettler Run will assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Memorial.
Combined, “30 Runs to Remember” and the Rettler Run raised more than $41,000 for the Memorial.
“I have been blessed greatly for health and luck over the past 30 years and am very proud that the Run has become a major fundraiser for the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial,” said Rettler.
The Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial & Education Center in Kewaskum is a place of solemn remembrance and tribute centered around a steel beam from the fallen North Tower. It honors the victims, as well as the first responders who selflessly aided others that day and those who fought in the ensuing Global War on Terrorism.
The Memorial celebrates the spirit of unity and resilience that emerged while educating future generations to ensure the stories and lessons of 9/11 are never forgotten. It is operated and maintained by Kewaskum Remembers 9/11, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
