Welcomed rain leaves some mess in its wake; kayakers in trouble

August 9, 2021 – Washington Co., WI – Farmers across Washington County are relishing in the late-season rainy forecast however there has been some cleanup in the wake of strong storms moving through the area.

Neighbors in Germantown, Farmington, West Bend, and elsewhere have been dealing with power outages from the rainfall.

West Bend police were also called about the effects of rain at the construction site on Seventh Avenue and Hickory Street.

“It’s normal culvert construction” according to local handyman Keith Keehn.  Police put yellow tape around the sites after several neighbors called about the issue.

There was also a reported water rescue on the Milwaukee River near the Eisenbahn Trail just south of Water Street and Veterans Avenue as a woman and a child were kayaking and got into trouble in the fast-moving water.

”We went out there and the woman was standing in the water holding the kayak and a branch. The child was in the kayak and they were on the side of the river by the steep bank,” said Rob Schaefer with the West Bend Fire Department.

The pair were rescued.
