SWAT teams respond to domestic standoff with weapon in Jackson

Tactical response teams were called to Jackson early Sunday morning after a woman reported her intoxicated husband was handling a semi-automatic rifle and threatening to harm himself.

After calling 911 at 12:04 a.m., the woman fled her Jackson Drive home with one child. She told police she couldn’t retrieve a sleeping 2 year old who was in close proximity to the man.

Because of that, and the man’s condition, the officers didn’t attempt to contact him.

Officers from Slinger and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office helped secure the area.

At about 3:30 a.m., SWAT teams from the Sheriff’s Department and West Bend Police Department prepared to enter the home but a negotiator first contacted the man by phone; he came outside and was arrested without incident. The child was safe and returned to his mother.

Charges of disorderly conduct/domestic violence and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon have been referred to the District Attorney.

This incident came only hours after another armed man was thought to be suicidal.

At about 10 p.m. Jackson police were called to the Comfort Inn & Suites, Tillie Lake Court, after friends reported that the man, who was known to carry a pistol, had posted a suicidal threat on social media.

Officers intercepted the man as he exited his room and detained him without incident. The man has a concealed carry permit and a pistol was found in the room.

He was released after he explained to police and ACS that his threat wasn’t sincere.
