VIDEO | Tiger cubs ready for public viewing at Shalom Wildlife Zoo | By David Fechter

West Bend, WI – “You wanted to know when the cubs would be out so you can come see them, well that time has arrived,” said David Fechter, co-owner of Shalom Wildlife Zoo with his wife, Lana. The Zoo, 1901 Shalom Dr, West Bend, WI, has opened its doors to the much-anticipated public viewing of the four, brand new 5-1/2-week-old tiger cubs born to Ginger earlier this month. Nina, Khan, King and Charlette arrived on August 6, 2022.

Shalom’s latest update on the cubs:

“The cubs are 5 1/2 weeks old and have started eating raw chicken. The chicken along with mothers’ milk has quenched their voracious appetites.

“Instead of fighting each other on who gets a nipple first, they now spend that time playing and wrestling with each other and exploring.
“Hooray to Ginger who produced enough milk. From August 6, 2022, the day they were born, and every day since, all four cubs gained weight each day.

“Now that they are on meat, their body weight has increased from 2-3 ounces per day to 6-8 ounces per day. All are over 12 pounds.
“Zookeepers Eric, Logan, Joel, Nate, and Don are working on Jona’s new enclosure every day. We hope to move Jona into there by October 15, weather permitting. When that happens the cubs should be old enough to share the big area with Ginger.
“A big thank you goes out to everyone who has been donating chickens, turkeys, beef, pork, venison, and other types of donations as well. It is greatly appreciated.”
Shalom Wildlife Zoo is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance fee is $15 for adults; $10 for children. The park is open to walkers with golf carts rental available.

The Fechters opened Shalom Wildlife Zoo in 1979 and it now boasts 100 acres with 75 species and more than 750 animals.
