West Bend native Michael Maziarka is approaching Merrill, WI, with Miles Vining who hails from Indiana – both Afghanistan War vets partaking in the Warrior Hike. The two are making their way along the 1,000+ mile Ice Age Trail and have been on the move for nearly six weeks.
On the trail just north of Merrill they “did quite a bit of bushwhacking,” said Maziarka. The trail was overrun with brush and foliage, which slowed things down a bit. Regardless of the terrain, he says, “We’ve been putting in between 14-18 miles each day.”
Maziarka said that even though the rain seems to be giving them a much-needed break, their feet remain wet most of the time as they trek through water, mud and more water. He’s hoping the trail will become drier as they begin to travel south at the end of the week. Here are a few photo shares:
