VIDEO | Slinger wrestler makes it official with US Military Academy at West Point

December 13, 2021 – Slinger, WI – Slinger High School senior Noah Tonsor made it official regarding his appointment to US Military Academy at West Point. A ceremonial signing was held at Slinger High School with his coaches, parents, teachers, teammates and friends in attendance.

“It is a very rare thing in Slinger and any high school in America to be chosen as a student athlete is a double honor because it means he’s amongst the best students in the state and amongst the best athletes in the state of Wisconsin,” said Slinger Superintendent Daren Sievers. “So, we’re very, very proud of Noah.”

Tonsor has been appointed by the US Military Academy West Point. He will leave in July 2022 for West Point, New York where he will major in information technology.
“I’m excited to face the challenge; obviously the competition is a lot steeper, but I’m excited to do my best to become the best and hopefully become a national champion,” Tonsor said.

Tonsor has wrestled at 113-to-120 pounds in high school. He thinks he’ll bounce up to 125 pounds at West Point.
“I’m not super big and strong so I’m assuming I’ll probably end up going up a couple weight classes within a few years,” he said. “I obviously want to be the best I can be. I want to be an All-American and a national champion at the Division 1 level and I want to do well in school and hopefully get into something in the cyber field of the military.”

Sievers said West Point definitely was impressed with Tonsor’s academics and from an athletic standpoint he thinks one trait in particular was key.
“Probably the biggest thing I can think of is self-discipline was very important,” he said. “A wrestler has to be very, very self-disciplined to make weight, disciplined and patient in their approach on the mat and I think that combination of self-discipline along with just obviously physical gifts and intellectual gifts you have to be the total package to to receive an opportunity like this.”
“I want to definitely thank my parents, all of my family members for supporting me, all my teammates from school and club for helping me get to where I and I just want to thank
everybody who’s ever supported me, ever said congratulations or anything like that because you know it means the world to me,” Tonsor said.
