VIDEO | West Bend, WI man turns over $260 he found and police track down rightful owner

December 9, 2021 – West Bend, WI – A good news story out of West Bend, WI that deserves to take the spotlight. Jordan Shaw, 27, was driving for DoorDash this week when he noticed something on River Road just south of Decorah Road.

“It was about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, and right by Decorah Road at the traffic light I thought I saw a couple dollar bills floating in the middle of the road,” said Shaw.  “I didn’t think too much of it and kept driving and delivered my DoorDash and I went back to see if it was really money.”

After parking his car at the side of the road, Shaw found a couple dollar bills.

“I started to find cash all over the place,” he said. “Most of it was $1’s and $5’s and there was a $20. I was picking up as much as I could. I was also finding little metal pieces.”

Shaw, who is originally from Madison, has lived in West Bend seven years.

He stuffed the money in his right pocket, went home, counted it and called police.

“I told police I found all this money and maybe a safe on the side of the road,” he said. “I went to the police station, talked to the officer and gave him the money.”

“In my mind I knew I couldn’t keep it,” Shaw said. “I just couldn’t believe I found it.”

The evening was cold, dark, windy and according to Shaw nobody else stopped.

West Bend police confirmed the incident.

About 20 minutes after Shaw got home police called to say the owner was found. “The money was from the West Bend East basketball bakery fundraiser,” he said. “Police were greatly appreciative.”

The best scenario so far has been the money box was placed on the top of a vehicle, forgotten, and slid off when the vehicle was in motion.

Shaw, a single dad with a 6-year-old daughter, said the whole story makes him feel extra good. “I just thought it was so cool the rightful owner will get it back,” he said. “I believe in God and I believe in doing the right thing; I didn’t think twice about it.”

This is a working story, and more information will be posted when details become available.

  1. Thank you for reporting this…we need to highlight wonderful people – there is good all over in our society if we choose to look for it. I am part of the basketball program, we will be reaching out with thanks privately, but wanted to publicly thank Jordan here. I found out about this when it was discovered the money was misplaced and searched River Road and the HS parking lot to no avail, I must have missed Jordan’s good deed by minutes!

  2. What the world needs now is more people like Jordan. He set an excellent example for his daughter & also for the WB East Basketball players. BRAVO… ❤️
