Record-setting 100th career tennis victory for Hartford Union HS senior Ethan Hoffmann | By Laura Trapp

Hartford, WI — Hartford Union senior Ethan Hoffmann has made high school history collecting his 100th career varsity tennis victory. It came with Saturday, May 2, 2026, in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over West Bend East’s Sam Loiacono.

Hoffmann becoming the first player in Hartford history—boys or girls—to reach the milestone. The achievement is less a sudden breakthrough and more the culmination of four years of steady excellence.

Now sitting at 101-15 overall, Hoffmann has yet to drop a match in the 2026 season. His rise began as a freshman, when he quietly went undefeated at third singles, competing alongside a strong lineup that included his older brother. Since then, his game evolved, but the foundation—discipline, composure, and consistency—has remained unchanged.

HUHS head coach Andy Andress has seen that growth firsthand, both on the court and in the classroom.

“Ethan is a delightful young man who is always positive, happy, and incredibly coachable,” said Andress, who also taught Hoffmann during his middle school years at Erin School. “What makes him special is the class, humility, and grace that he exudes on and off the court. He is well-grounded and puts tennis in the proper perspective.”

Hoffmann’s résumé extends well beyond his win total. A three-time WIAA state qualifier, he advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2025 state tournament as the No. 11 seed. His performance earned statewide recognition as a nominee for the Wisconsin Tennis Association’s Frank Parker Award—an honor reserved for athletes who demonstrate excellence in both competition and character.

That character is often what leaves the strongest impression. Even opponents have taken note. After a recent match, a Slinger player summed it up with a mix of admiration and honesty: “That was the most fun I had playing while losing. If he wasn’t from our rival, I think he and I could be good friends.”

Behind the wins is a network of support—family, coaches, and training opportunities—that Andress credits as vital to Hoffmann’s development. The result is a player who competes fiercely, yet carries himself with a calm perspective that keeps the bigger picture in focus.

As his senior season continues, Hoffmann’s story is still unfolding. He has committed to the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he will study business and continue his tennis career with the Warhawks.

“I am incredibly proud of Ethan and this accomplishment,” Andress said. “His parents have been an excellent support system and have been easy to work with. I am excited to see how Ethan finishes out his high school career.”
