November 3, 2025 – North Fond du Lac- At 19:32 on November 2, 2025, the North Fond du Lac Fire Department was dispatched to 225 Broadway Street for a report of a residential structure fire.

North Fond du Lac Fire units responded with assistance from the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, Van Dyne Fire Department, Lamartine Fire Department, RIT District 5, North Fond du Lac Police Department, FDL County Sheriff’s Department, North Fond du Lac DPW, and Alliant Energy. North Fond du Lac Fire Department units arrived on scene and found light smoke coming from the single-story ranch home.
Initial arriving units were advised that there was nobody in the house but there were two dogs unaccounted for and possibly still in the residence along with chickens in the garage.
Fire crews made entry on the first floor and found that the house was filled with heavy smoke.
Initial search and rescue found nobody still in the residence but did find both dogs deceased inside which were removed from the residence by fire personnel.
An initial search of the first floor did not reveal any active fire. Another fire crew entered the garage and found light smoke conditions and the chickens which were still alive. Crews entered the basement and found heavy smoke conditions.
After searching the basement crews determined that the fire had been extinguished by a water line that had been melted as a result of the fire. After the fire was determined to be under control, crews proceeded with overhaul and searching for hot spots.
During the overhaul process, crews found an area in an upstairs bedroom where the fire had traveled up through a heating vent and started a mattress on fire.
Crews extinguished the hot spot and continued with overhaul. Once all hot spots were extinguished, crews ventilated the home.
Fire crews remained on scene until 22:30 conducting an investigation. At this time, the cause of the fire is undetermined.
The residence sustained heavy smoke damage throughout. While operating on scene there was a water main break on Adams Avenue and North Fond du Lac DPW was notified.
The North Fond du Lac Fire Department extends our condolences to the Family for the loss of their dogs.
There were no injuries reported at this incident.
