VIDEO | Flag folding at County Board Chairman Ken Miller funeral

January 28, 2026 Germantown, Wi – Funeral services were held Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 2 p.m. for former Washington County Board chairman Ken Miller. Memories were shared, condolence letters were read, and the military performed a flag-folding ceremony to honor their brother in service.

After the ceremony, which included a three-volley salute and the playing of Taps, the flag was presented to Marge Miller with the words, “On behalf of the President of the United States Army, the United and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one’s honorable and faithful service.”

During the service, Pastor Greg Young read two letters addressed to the Miler family. The first was from former Washington County Circuit Courty Judge Patrick Faragher, who retired from the bench in 2010.

Dear Marge, I need to express how much Ken meant to me. He was my friend.
He was a valued leader, co-worker, ally, and inspiration. We did not always agree, and that’s the point, we always don’t have to agree, but Ken always listened. His ideas were well considered.

His object was the public interest. Unlike some current politicians, Ken was not self-promoting or building for his personal political ambitions. He served the people the way it should be.

I enjoyed our work together, and I’m proud of his success, especially the county fairgrounds. We had many pleasant lunches and lighter moments. Most importantly, I trusted him 100%.

Jan and I enjoyed your parties, especially New Year’s Day. Ken and you were great hosts. We always were comfortable and well-fed, too, and I think a lot of us here probably know about that whole well-fed part on New Year’s Day, and your presence.

I appreciate your love and care for Ken. Not always easy, I’m sure. I miss Ken, and will miss him as life goes on for me.

My health doesn’t always permit me to do that, but he was simply who wants to say an end. God bless you. Be assured of our prayers.

Marge and Ken also had a number of foreign exchange students. This is from Sabina Olczyk.

My dearest Marge,

We were stunned and deeply saddened to receive your news about Ken’s death. Our hearts were filled with profound grief, and it’s difficult to find words of comfort, words for the loss of such a beloved and wonderful person as Ken was, who now leaves behind such a huge void. Since I first met you both over 50 years ago, Ken and you, dear Marge, have been an important and beloved part of my life over the years.

And I’ve always been proud and grateful to have known two such wonderful people. Despite the deep pain of Ken’s loss, the lasting love and memory of him will live on in my heart forever.

Because what you hold deep in your heart cannot be lost, even through death.
And the memory of Ken will remain, like a window through which we can see whatever we want. There are always deep traces of life in our hearts. Thoughts, images, moments, and feelings that will remind us of Ken, make us happy and sad, and never, never will let us forget him.

With all his knowledge, his humor, and his warmth, Ken was the beloved center of the family. With his constant care, he was always a safe haven for you, Marge, and for all of his beloved family, a place of trust and security. It feels incomprehensible that this haven has now fallen silent.

But the love he sowed is rooted in all of you, and will remain forever. Dear Marge, it makes me very sad that you now have to bear this pain. In our thoughts, we are all firmly by your side.

You two were always a symbol of a perfect and wonderful union for me, in which each of you complimented and supported the other unconditionally. Over these many years you’ve been together, not only did that wonderful family with children and grandchildren grow, but also a precious shared treasure.

Ken and you understood each other, often with just a glance.

And I think a lot of married couples for long periods of time know each other know that. With unspoken words, so that one of you immediately knew what the other was thinking and feeling in that moment. You were blessed to master all of life’s ups and downs, side by side, for almost an entire lifetime.

With all the memories of former times, you were able to share maybe the feeling of gratitude for the deep love, the familiarity, and the time you had together can give you at least a little comfort as time goes by.

And in closing, dearest Marge, we wish you in particular, but also Lynn, Rick, and Chris, much strength during this difficult time, and that you will get through these hard days together and support each other. We all send you our warmest regards and want you to know that all of our thoughts are with you and Lynn, and Rick, and Chris.

With infinite love and infinite sorrow. Sabina, Klaus, Arnie, Ansgar, and Nils.
