May 19, 2026 – Fond du Lac Co., Wi – On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 7:58 p.m., a deputy from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on CTH TC near CTH M for a registration violation. The vehicle operator provided the deputy with a false name but the deputy recognized the driver as a suspect wanted for absconding on parole for original charges of robbery, as well as bench warrants for failure to appear on charges including resisting or obstructing an officer. The driver fled the scene of the traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.
The driver fled at speeds exceeding 100mph approximately two miles to his home on Hemp Road in the town of Waupun where he exited his vehicle and ran inside.
Additional deputies, with assistance from the Waupun Police Department, Fond du Lac Police Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol, surrounded the home and started issuing commands to the suspect to exit, but he refused and remained barricaded inside.
After several hours of requesting a peaceful surrender, and due to the nature of the warrants and new felony charges related to the pursuit, the sheriff’s office SWAT team was deployed to initiate a tactical resolution to the incident. The Fond du Lac Police Department SWAT team was also requested to assist due to the complexity of the operation and numerous outbuildings on the property.
After three more hours of attempted negotiations that occurred simultaneously while a search warrant for the home was drafted and then reviewed and issued by a circuit court judge, SWAT operators utilized mechanical and armored vehicle breaching capabilities to create communication portals through two doors into the home. Moments later, three adult subjects, including the suspect wanted for warrants and eluding, exited the home and were taken into custody.
SWAT maintained a perimeter on the home while the subjects were interviewed, and it was learned that a fourth person, who also had warrants, may still be inside. The SWAT team remained on scene to search and clear the residence and all outbuildings on the property, and a fourth suspect was not located.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Fond du Lac Police Department, Waupun Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, LifeStar EMS, North Fond du Lac Ambulance, Waupun Fire Department, Alliant Energy, and the Town of Waupun.
