1 person killed in crash with semi in Dodge Co., Wi | By Dodge Co. Sheriff

October 8, 2026 – Dodge Co., Wi – On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 6:58 a.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on State Highway 16/60 at County Road BB in the Town of Elba.

Initial investigation showed that a GMC SUV was traveling westbound on State Highway 16/60. A semi, tractor/trailer was traveling southbound on County Highway BB.

The semi failed to stop at the stop sign, striking the SUV.  As a result of this crash, the driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi was transported to Prairie Ridge Hospital with minor injuries.  The decedent was identified as a 77-year-old man from Jefferson, Wisconsin.  The driver of the semi was identified as a 28-year-old man from Waterloo,Wisconsin.

State Highway 16/60 remained closed for nearly three hours while members of the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team completed the investigation.

 While this was happening, a Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Officer(CSO) was performing traffic control at the intersection of State Highway 16/60 and County Highway T.

A motorist struck the CSO vehicle, which was equipped with emergency lights activated, causing the vehicle to strike the CSO.

The CSO was transported to Prairie Ridge Hospital with suspected minor injuries.  That crash is under investigation by Wisconsin State Patrol.

The sheriff’s office would like to stress paying attention to the roadway and avoiding distracted driving.  Currently, both crashes remain under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting at the scene were the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dodge County Emergency Response Team, Lifestar Ambulance Service, Columbus Fire Department, Columbus Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
