Celebrating the 125th anniversary of the WI State Parks System | By Jackie Scharfenberg

Campbellsport, WI – The Friends of the Kettle Moraine invite you and your entire family for a grand celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System on Saturday, July 26, from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held outdoors at the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area picnic shelter area of the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit. Mauthe Lake is located at N1490 County Road GGG, Campbellsport, which is south of County Road SS near New Prospect.

A Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker is required for parking. If anyone needs a sticker, it can be purchased on the day of the event. The cost is a freewill donation with a suggested contribution of $5/person. Dogs are not allowed in the area around the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area picnic shelter. In case of inclement weather, most of the event’s activities will be moved to inside the picnic shelter.

The celebration starts at 4:00 p.m. with fun activities for all ages including old-time games like Hoops and Sticks, Graces, and Sack Races, and creative crafts such as nature printing (bring your own T-shirt) and pressed flower bookmarks. You will not want to miss the chance to meet Smokey Bear. Folks are encouraged to check out the 125 years history of the Wiscosin State Parks System. Bring extra cash to buy tasty, sweet treats at the Friends of the Kettle Moraine bake sale. The Mauthe Lake Concession Stand will offer meal specials for the event.

At 7:00 p.m., take a step back in musical time to enjoy the unforgettable songs of John Denver and others performed by Brett Hall. Brett, a singer and songwriter, has been performing for many years around Wiscosin and throughout the United States. This is an outside concert, so remember to bring your blankets and lawn chairs.
