Below is the Quilt of Valor ceremony
Seven veterans from the Allenton American Legion Fohl-Martin Post 483 were honored during a quilt presentation at the annual Allenton Picnic. Each veteran received a plaque and a homemade quilt from the ladies at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Slinger, WI.
Veterans honored with a quilt included: The only Allenton Legion WWII veteran Donald Kurer. Six Korean-era veterans including Ervin Rauh, Gilbert Strupp, Norbert Carter, Gille Selle, Bob Wolf, Wally Kohler and Dick Schellinger.
Ron Naab served as master of ceremonies during the hometown heroes event held at the Concert in the Park in Allenton.
There was also a nice writeup about picnic volunteer Pat Hart.
Every year it’s the popular Allenton Picnic and every year there is a familiar face, Pat Hart, volunteering her time at the hamburger stand at Veterans Park in Allenton, WI.
Pat Hart has been serving burgers and brats, fries and chicken sandwiches for 45 years with the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dreams also came true at this year’s Allenton Picnic and Parade…
Joan Steffes, 89, is a resident at Cedar Ridge. An avid dancer, she had consistently expressed a desire to be a Dancing Granny. On Sunday at the Allenton Parade that wish was fulfilled as Steffes was the honorary banner carrier.
“I can dance… and I’m old,” said Steffes as she met the gaggle of Grannies. They were dressed in silver sparkle, blue skirts, shiny hats and bright red lipstick. “The lipstick is one of the requirements,” said a Granny who was diligent about her makeup.
Steffes was the honorary banner carrier. It wasn’t too hard to spot her with her signature white hair. While tasked with the banner she did manage to get in a quick dance step or two. The Grannies were naturally friendly and welcoming, cheering Joan’s arrival.
