AUDIO CLIP | Barton history – can you “Name That Tune?”

West Bend, WI – While researching the story about taverns on the corner of Main Street and Barton Avenue, (Gary’s Tavern and The Elbow Room), there were a couple interesting tidbits of history on another story.

Sally Cotter Fellenz grew up in Barton. She even wrote a local history book, “Over the Clothesline.” Although knowledgeable, Cotter Fellenz did get stumped on the lyrics to the little ditty ‘The Barton Girls.’

“But then the rest we don’t know,” she said. “We think somebody older than us has to know those words.”

The child on the right is one of the “famous” Barton girls…. and she has her “hair in curls.”
