West Bend, WI – The Knights of Columbus and The Columbian in West Bend are taking the lead to spread the good news and pay tribute to snowplow driver David Gehrke and recognizing him for his effort to help rescue a 5-year-old boy.
The story originally was posted on WashingtonCountyInsider.com as Gehrke was starting his shift at 4 a.m. and found Maddox walking in -5 degree temperatures.
The good news has gone viral appearing in publications and networks in Kansas City, San Francisco, Mississippi, Milwaukee, and other national news outlets.
The story had a happy ending and neighbors have heaped praise on Gehrke as many refer to him as the boy’s “guardian angel.”
The Columbian will hold a recognition presentation on Friday, March 5 during its first Friday fish fry.
Everyone is welcome to come meet Gehrke and his family, Maddox, his mom, aunt and the treasured grandfather.
The presentation will be held at 6 p.m. The event will be livestreamed at Washington County Insider.
The Columbian opens at 4:30 p.m. for its regular first Friday fish fry.
The Columbian is hosting Bryan’s Fish Fry on Friday, March 5. Serving from 4:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.. Hand-breaded, deep-fried cod, baked cod, deep-fried shrimp, and lake perch. Each dinner is served with homemade coleslaw, french fries, and rye bread.
