Rusher said Tokyo was an amazing experience and it was very warm, which led to Rusher and her teammates doing a lot of training before their rounds to account for the heat.

“The water’s a bit crazy in Tokyo, a bit windy and wavy, but it was a great competition and I feel the Tokyo Committee did a fantastic job overall,” she said.

Rusher said the most difficult thing about rowing as a sport is “you voluntarily put yourself in about as much pain you can handle and then it really comes down to how hard you can push yourself.”

“The most enjoyable thing was being on a team boat and the great thing about being on a team like that is when everything is clicking, it’s a magical feeling, almost like you are flying and its almost effortless to reach that next level of intensity.”

At the Olympics, Rusher was on the Women’s Quadruple Sculls team; the US team ultimately finished in 10th place.
China, Poland, and Australia took the gold, silver, and bronze medals.
