January 24, 2025 – Calgary – There’s a lot on the line this weekend for Kewaskum-area speed skater Jordan Stolz who puts his 16 consecutive first-place finishes to the test at the World Cup in Calgary.
Stolz will be skating against top-notch athletes from 30 countries.
He will be competing at the Olympic Oval, which was constructed for the Olympic Winter Games Calgary 1988.
The Olympic Oval has a reputation for notching record times and for that the rink is nicknamed “the fastest ice in the world.”
According to US Speed Skating, “Team USA’s Jordan Stolz will look to continue his reign atop the 500m, 1000m and 1500m World Cup standings, while newly-crowned European sprint champion Jenning de Boo will hope to provide the American with a mid-season wake-up call in Calgary.”

This will be a unique tour as I’m without a bicycle, but will make do on a great adventure.
Fatigued with preparation I fell into my normal nervous traveler routine.
At security I asked the woman if I had to take off my pants. First I thought I kept that in my head, then I watched her face and determined quickly one of us said it out loud.
She was dry and polite. “No thank you,” she said kindly. “Just your shoes and belt.” Good grief.
