The investigation thus far has shown the man was eastbound on State Highway 16/60, about a mile and a half east of the city of Columbus, when the motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway.

The man was the only occupant on the motorcycle and was ejected during the crash.

He suffered serious injuries and was flown to UW Hospital in Madison.  He was not wearing a helmet, and the lack of that was a factor in the significance of the injuries.

Also responding to the crash were the Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire Department, Lifestar EMS, and UW Med Flight.  The highway was closed for about two hours due to the incident.
