Dog dies in Sunday house fire in Fond du Lac Co. | By Sgt. Logan Will

May 31, 2026 – Fond du Lac Co., Wi – On Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 2:19 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a passerby of a structure fire at 818 Main St. in the Village of St. Cloud.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, along with the St. Cloud Fire Department, were immediately dispatched to the call.

Shortly after the initial call, the homeowners arrived and were able to confirm no one was inside the residence with the exception of two dogs.

Upon arrival of the St. Cloud Fire Department, smoke was observed coming from the roof and active fire was located in the kitchen. Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and additional hot spots.

The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen near the stove, while the exact cause remains unknown.

No civilians or first responders were injured, however, one of the family dogs perished in the fire.

The home sustained significant smoke and water damage. The fire is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

The following fire departments responded to assist: Mt. Calvary, Calumet, City of Fond du Lac, New Holstein, Kiel, St. Anna, Eden, Glenbeulah, Greenbush, and Elkhart Lake.
