Slinger, Wi — Faith United Church of Christ has raised $1,000 through its summer mission project to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a nonprofit organization providing beds to children in Washington County who do not have a bed of their own.

At Faith UCC’s church picnic on August 30, a $1,000 check was presented to Sue Becker, volunteer coordinator for Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s Washington County chapter. The donation will provide enough lumber and supplies for SHP volunteers to build approximately 10 beds for local children.
“Today, God saw a need, and He sent you. On behalf of the Washington County chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, I want to thank you for your support, for your gifts, and for your blessings,” said Becker.
The summer fundraising effort included contributions from several sources. Children attending Faith UCC’s Vacation Bible School raised $351, the church’s “noisy coin tower” collected $195, and other monetary contributions brought the total raised to $1,000.
“The children at Vacation Bible School found a wonderful way to help other children in our community,” said Pastor Steve Scharnell of Faith United Church of Christ. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this project and helped make it possible to provide beds for children who need them.”

Faith UCC’s Mission Committee regularly organizes projects that provide opportunities for members of the congregation to support local families and community organizations. The church’s next opportunity will support a Christmas mission project, which will be announced soon.
