The Warhawks fell victim to their own mistakes, namely snapping the ball and offensive route running in week No. 1 against Homestead, 32 – 14.
The Orioles meanwhile rode a nearly unstoppable rushing attack (392 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns) in a stellar 40-21 home win against Waukesha West.
It was a team effort for the Orioles as junior running back Noah Deibert had 92 yards and 3 touchdowns, while senior running backs AJ Pepin and Dylan Chivas ran for 111 and 142 yards and one touchdown.
It’s a good thing the Orioles were able to run the ball as starting junior quarterback Austin Kutz only threw five passes in the win against Waukesha West, completing four of them for 45 yards.
The Warhawks achieved good balance offensively, having 133 yards passing and 86 yards rushing, however most of the latter was almost entirely a product of junior quarterback Henry Kelly who had 53 rushing yards mostly in attempts to salvage passing plays gone awry.
Kelley also had one passing touchdown in the loss to Homestead.
The most noteworthy overall player for the Warhawks was senior Aaron Grant who had 33 yards rushing, but also ran a kickoff back 70 yards for touchdown.
Due to playing from behind again Homestead the entire game, it will be interesting to see just what the Warhawks offensive gameplay is supposed to be like and if they will be able to execute it in this tough matchup.
However, it is worth noting the Orioles defense did allow Waukesha West 280 yards of total offense, which could be an exploitable advantage for the Warhawks.
The last game between these two programs was in 2014 at Hartford High School which the Warhawks won 41-7.
Hartford will take on Germantown at Germantown High School on Friday August 27, 2021 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
