Full obituary for Larry Jay Hoien, 76, of Jackson. Larry Jay started radio in 1964 at KRAD in Minnesota. He also worked at WAUK-AM, WRIT-AM and WYLO-AM, WEZW-FM and WFMR-FM, and WTKM Radio.

Jan. 31, 2017 – Jackson, WI – Larry Jay Hoien, age 76, of Jackson, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend.  He was born on November 2, 1941 to Jay and Evelyn (nee Smith) Hoien in Estherville, Iowa.  He graduated from Estherville High School Class of 1958 and served in the US Army.  He married Marie (nee Setter) on February 19, 1966 in Estherville, Iowa.

Larry Jay started radio in 1964.  His first job was at KRAD in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.  He has made stops at stations in Iowa, WAUK-AM in Waukesha, WRIT-AM and WYLO-AM, WEZW-FM and WFMR-FM in Milwaukee.

He also did on-air work and book announcing at Channel 6 in Milwaukee.  Larry joined WTKM Radio in June of 1997 working on-air and in the sales department until his retirement.

He was a member of Northbrook Church.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Marie; son Paul Hoien; daughter Connie Campbell; son-in-law Marty Campbell; granddaughter Emily Torpy; grandson Mitchell Campbell; brother David Hoien; sister-in-law Margaret Hoien; nieces Laura Hoien and Sondra Hoien.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

  1. I’m so sad to hear of the loss of this kind, funny and very dedicated man. May you rest in peace, Larry. My prayers are with his wife, Marie, and his family.
