Germantown man recovering from accidentally shooting himself in hand

A Germantown man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the hand after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his weapon.

Washington County Sheriff’s said they were notified by Menomonee Falls Police on Friday that they were out with a 22-year-old man at Community Memorial Hospital who had a gunshot wound to his hand.

It was believed to be an accidental discharge by the victim.

Deputies and detectives were sent to the Community Memorial Hospital and the victim’s apartment located in the town of Germantown to investigate.

The investigation revealed the victim was home alone in an apartment above a business in the town of Germantown.

The victim was cleaning his handgun, and while putting the weapon back together, the weapon discharged one round striking the victim in the left hand.

The round did not penetrate the apartment, and did not cause a danger to the business below. The discharge appears to be accidental in nature. The victim will not be facing any criminal charges.
