Hartford, Wi – The Hartford Rotary Club and Hartford Union High School are pleased to announce Hailey Tomes and Troy Westfall were honored recently as Rotary Students of the Month.

The students were given special recognition for their accomplishments at the Hartford Rotary Club’s Thursday noon meetings during the month of November.
Hailey Tomes is the daughter of Lana Sanders and Adam Tomes. Tomes is an exceptional student whose involvement at HUHS highlights both her intellect and compassion.
As Chapter President of Best Buddies, she leads efforts to promote inclusion and support students of all abilities. She also directs the Middle School Math Meet, competes on the Varsity Math Team, and is an active member of National Honor Society, H-Club, and Sources of Strength.
Tomes tutors her peers, runs a new ACT Study Group, and has served as a guide runner in Cross Country. She is also a two time sectional qualifier in the 4×800 in Track.
Tomes is extremely passionate about helping others in whatever way possible. She volunteers extensively in the community through H-Club and the National Honor Society. Tomes started crocheting octopus stuffed animals for NICU babies after reading a research paper about the potential therapeutic benefits.
Tomes has earned numerous academic honors, including a perfect ACT score of 36, a 99th percentile PSAT, perfect PLTW exam scores, and recognition as an AP Scholar with Honor.
She has attended the Best Buddies Leadership Conference, served as a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, and earned multiple Student of the Month awards.
After graduation from HUHS, Tomes plans to pursue a major in biology, genetics, chemistry, or a related degree that will help her achieve her goal of becoming an oncology researcher. She may also pursue an MD and PHD degree so she can eventually work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Troy Westfall is the son of Traci and Craig Westfall. Westfall is a talented and well-rounded student who has excelled in academics, music, athletics, and service throughout his four years at HUHS. He is a dedicated member of multiple music ensembles—including jazz band, marching band, pep band, and choir, where he serves as Vice President.
Westfall is active in the school musical, National Honor Society, alpine ski racing, track, aviation club, and cross country, where he is a team captain.
Westfall has given back to his community by volunteering his time through St. Kilian Parish, HUHS and scouting in the following activities: Support the Troops, Relay for Life, Wellington Place, MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary, Love and Blessings for the Homeless, Hartford Christmas Committee, and the Hartford Food Pantry. He has also volunteered with the Wisconsin Soaring Society at the Hartford Airport and is a certified youth soccer referee for the Kettle Moraine Soccer Club.
Westfall’s accomplishments include competing at the state level in alpine skiing, receiving the AP Scholar with Honor distinction, earning a College Board National Recognition Award, receiving a Wisconsin School Music Association Exemplary Performance Award, serving as a Badger Boys State Delegate, and maintaining High Honor Roll every semester.
Westfall plans to pursue an engineering degree with an aerospace or aviation focus at
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
