Students in custody following “hold” placed at West Bend High Schools | By West Bend Police

October 4, 2023 – West Bend, Wi – On October 4, 2023 at 7:16 a.m. the West Bend Police Department was notified by West Bend High School staff of a physical altercation occurring amongst a small group of students.

As a safety precaution school staff placed the High School on a brief hold until the matter was resolved.

 

Officers responded and those involved in the disturbance have been taken into custody and are at the West Bend Police Department while the matter is being investigated. Regular classes have resumed and there is no threat to the community.

There is zero tolerance for school violence or threats of school violence and those involved in this type of incident will face criminal charges for their actions.

The West Bend Police Department has a presence in all of the schools in our community and strongly encourage students if they SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.

As an additional safety precaution students and parents may notice an increased police presence at the schools in the coming days.

The School District also released a statement:

“This morning at the high schools building, there was a physical altercation involving several students. The school was put in a hold to allow the school staff and school liaison officers to resolve the situation. Several students were taken into custody by the West Bend Police Department. Once the hold was lifted, the school day is now continuing to operate regularly.

“We thank the staff and other students for their cooperation. As mentioned above, students involved in physical altercations are referred to the West Bend Police Department. They’re also given school consequences.

“As mentioned in a previous message, we are implementing a more structured environment in the high schools building in the morning. This will now be implemented tomorrow October five when students arrived prior to the start of the school day on October five, they will be directed to a cafeteria or the field house.

“This is a requirement for all students who are in the building before the school day begins at 7:15 a.m. If you have questions, please contact me or your child’s assigned administrator.”
